Beautiful Miss Angola, Liela Lopes, snags the crown for Miss Universe 2011. Leila courageously beat out 88 other women by a landslide.
Normally, I could care 2 cents about any type of Miss-whatever pageants. Not only are black women disproportionately represented, but also, in most cases, the women do not represent TRUE beauty.
However, browsing through channels (nothing else seemed to be on), I decided, ‘Why not watch the pageant?’ I was curious to know what exactly is soooo special about these women for them to be deemed worthy of such a coveted title like Miss Universe. I watched. I criticized. And ultimately, I was jumping out of my chair when the results were announced.
What surprised me the most was seeing big booties, big breast and women of ALL races elegantly gracing the stage with their presence. I immediately felt remorseful for initially judging the show. I was expecting to see a whole bunch of white, skinny women, but in actuality it was truly a montage of beautiful women from every race.
What won, was being different. And Miss Angola was definitely different.
Leila was the ONLY black woman in the top 16 chosen to battle it out for the crown (literally).
Why did she win? Her beautiful dress along with her intelligent answer to the judge’s question helped her gain the crown. Not to mention, she's GORGEOUS!! She exemplifies the epitome of TRUE beauty.
