Fashionista Ashlie Darrel Offers A Sneak Peak Into Fall Fashion

Roland Mouret
As September quickly approaches; giving way to fall foliage. Her arrival will mark the official end of the summer season when, poolside Mojitos, monokinis, and sandals are set aside for leather boots, log cabins and well, not much else.

Nevertheless, the fall season brings with it more than cool breezes and picturesque scenery, it comes bearing fashion fruit. For New Yorkers like me, fall fashion week is a small light at the end of the last days of summer tunnel. This fall, designers are going back to meticulous tailoring, although many of last year’s trends re-appear this season they are updated with a fresh perspective. This fall, a few trends in particular stand out amongst the rest, and have made numerous appearances during fashion week; boudoir, forties glamour, tailored menswear with an edge, and muted color are the hottest trends to watch for. You do not want to leave home without the VIP’s (very important pieces) of the season.

Boudoir has emerged with a whimsical flair. Vintage inspired under garments from braziers to camisoles are becoming the third piece of the suit. Silk charmeuse, and sheer blouses give way to peek-a-boo lingerie, adding a hint of sensuality to the usually conservative fall trends. Power houses such as Miu Miu have incorporated the look into their fall line, and Dries Van Noten uses lingerie inspired pieces to their ultra forward line up.

The elegant femininity of the forties has finally caught on and is being paired with old Hollywood glamour and the practicality of a working woman. No fuss drop waists, silk dresses, and powerful pencil skirt silhouettes provide a simple yet elegant look to the, hyper masculine glam rock looks of last year.

Menswear is still standing, but the boyfriend jean and oversized tee shirt is so last season. The look is back with a tailored edge, in the form of sleeveless double breasted vests, oversized camel hair trenches, and baggy sweaters.  These pieces are being paired with slim cut pants, allowing for both comfort and power dressing.

Color is adding an unusual brightness to the usual drab palette of blacks, grays and browns of fall. This season they are being set aside for muted rusts, yellows, plums and rich teals, and rust colored accessories.  These pieces are being paired with these fall colors to give a wintery effect to the look.

This fall, the possibilities are endless, and for the stubborn fashionistas who refuse to give up the 80’s revival of last season. The trend continues in the form of club and street wear. Sky high shoulder pads and body conscious silhouettes were overwhelmingly present at Marc Jacobs, and will have a last hoorah this season. The biker revival has not moved on, but instead has found a happy marriage with rouched dresses, draped silhouettes, and uber feminine day gowns. Kiss your open-toes goodbye, strap on those red bottoms, and get fly because this fall has a lot of to offer the fashionista.

I like the white coat draped over the black blouse with a pair of gray pants. The rich teal coat paired with the rust colored boots is cute. The clothes from the 1940s were chic. I'm glad designers are incorporating them into their fashion line.
