Monogamy vs Cheating

Is It Really That Bad?

Cheating
Cheating, has society deemed it acceptable to stray while in a monogamous relationship? There is that age old belief that humans were never meant to be in committed relationships to one individual at a time. Cavemen and women had no notion of monogamy from what we know today, so why does society dictate that an individual must remain faithful to that one person? Many individuals look to celebrities or other people in power, for some kind of guidance – right or wrong, it doesn’t matter.

Stars like Snoop Dogg have been happily married for many years to the same spouse and have families with the same women. It begs the question whether, as a society, we place too much emphasis on this idea of commitment and of being with one person for life. If humans aren’t meant to be faithful, then does society expect to train everyone to this ideal of monogamy and if the era of marriage has passed then are people reverting to the older ways of a different time?? It might not be such a bad thing, although the health risks associated with rejecting the idea of monogamy may be detrimental to the future population, especially considering the health risks involved.

Something has changed in the past 150 years, since the time of cavemen, but sociologists can’t really pinpoint what it is. Maybe Snoop is on to something; perhaps he can have his cake and eat it too. The idea that marriage is the complete death of a man when he ties the proverbial knot would provide further evidence that maybe, just maybe, monogamy might not be all it’s cracked up to be. That old saying, look but don't touch might have a whole new meaning in the coming years.
