Imagine rubbing pure heaven between the palms of your hands to delicately smooth the entire elegances over ever part of your body. Well that's exactly what Nailah Blades has created with her newly launched beauty product line cleverly titled Safiya. With yummy "certified vegan" flavors including Ginger Lime and Dulce, the product line offers cream body butters, salt scrubs, luxurious bath soaps and much more. And the best part is that she's only 25! I had the opportunity to chat with the young entreprenuer about Safiya and what's to be expected in the future. Take a look.....
Ms. Joy: What does Safiya stand for?
Nailah Blades: Safiya, which is my middle name, means 'Pure and Clear Minded' in Swahili. I feel that this name fully represents my products. My line is made from only the purest natural materials and are designed for your full indulgence. I wanted to transform something as simple as applying lotion after a shower into a luxurious treat for mind, body and soul.

Ms. Joy: What was your inspiration for the product?
Nailah Blades: I've always been obsessed with products however, I found that the very products that I loved would irritate my skin. I set out to create a line that was free of the harsh irritants but still maintained the opulence and richness of traditional beauty products.

Ms. Joy: How did you finally make the steps to creating a skin care line?

Nailah Blades: I did an incredible amount of research! I had been making my own bath and body products for years so I had several recipes that were tried and true but I definitely wanted to make sure that whatever I was putting out to the public was the very best it could be. I researched my target market, my competitors and the overall industry. I also took classes and seminars to continue learning about my industry and emerging techniques & trends. Lastly, I had a lot to learn about running my own business so that was a whole other set of research and learning in itself.

Ms. Joy: Do you have any encouraging words for young ladies interested in having their own business or moving into a career?
Nailah Blades: If you're thinking of starting your own business my best piece of advice is to trust your gut and just do it! I think that oftentimes we spend more time thinking about our dreams rather than figuring out ways to make them happen. I do suggest being prepared and becoming an expert in your field but don't be overcome by analysis paralysis. At a certain point you just have to get out there and do it. My other piece of advice is to network. It's amazing what can happen when you just get out there and start talking to other people.

Ms. Joy: What does the future look like for Safiya?
Nailah Blades: I'm very excited about what the future holds for Safiya. We're a new company but we're beginning to receive a lot of great press. We also recently launched new products for the summer, including hand cremes and shower gels, that our customers love. I'm excited to continue to roll out unique & high-end products while continuing to grow our customer base.
